one of my two biggest musical heroes was Velvet Underground guitarist Sterling Morrison he was the only other band member on all four of the Lou Reed Velvets albums after leaving the band, he got a PhD in medieval literature he then taught English at the University of Texas at Austin for about 10 years after 10 years, he quit teaching and became a tugboat captain in the Houston ship channel likely attributable to pollution, he came down with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and died He is memorialized in the Galaxie 500 song “Tugboat” One of his two graduate dissertations (masters/PhD) was on swords in Beowulf I was lucky enough to hold a copy of this dissertation in my hands after a friend checked it out for me from the UT library ⚔️ 🤓😎🍌
