I just finished reading The Name of This Band is REM for the second time and it reinforced that I will never see the influence of such a band, that achieved so much success on their terms. As much as I love Wilco, they are a distant second. I’ll post an REM song from each album, chronologically, each day. Here is the single that started it all, and better captures thier early live spirit than the version on Murmur. look for the bootlegs from Tyrone’s in 1980 and you will understand.
