it’s taken me a few days to reacquaint myself with this album. after Monster, I had started to get into other bands, and although I still bought every REM album on its release, I didn’t digest them the same. I am sure that the first track “Airportman” didn’t help this record. I’ve come to realize it was purposeful by the band after Bill Berry left the group, maybe to separate the real fans out or maybe it was cathartic for them. It’s a shame because this is a really strong album. The run from Lotus to Daysleeper is one great song after another.
