there’s a formula in pop/alt indie right now that feels so obvious and i don’t know what everyone’s problem is but i’m sad and wish i could turn my brain off (as a pattern recognizer) it feels like gen z artists really miss the nostalgia of a the 1975/the neighbourhood/marina (and the diamonds)/alunageorge/Bangerz Miley Cyrus kinda world and everyone is tryna do their take on it? but im hearing so many blatantly obvious traces of other songs or other artists in some newer pop on the internet recently that makes me feel disheartened about artists’ commitment to being students of culture and/or their own longevity within their craft idk i understand some people just need an Internet Hit (which is another convo for another time) but there are times when i jus feel bored n dont wanna give artists a chance if their “new hit” was alr made by an artist i knew (and loved) years ago.
