I started listening to Joni last Christmas bc I saw a meme that said “told my friend to put on Christmas music and she started playing River by Joni Mitchell”. I was at a pretty low point mentally, and this album caught me at a formative time. This song reminds me of my inner dialogue for a good portion of the life I’ve been living recently

My favorite version from this song comes from the record “Trash Can City” recorded by the Bob Florence Big Band, which I cannot seem to find anywhere aside from the physical LP or obscure YouTube links. George Graham on lead trumpet is some of the best lead trumpet playing anywhere
