African rave music called Singeli from Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Considered the fastest paced genre, with some songs reaching 300BPM! it’s makers, without access to instruments took instrumental sections from taarab, a coastal music with Swahili lyrics and an Arabic influence from Zanzibar, then loop and speed them up. They would record MCs – whose lyrics are about street life and issues that affect young Tanzanians – using mobile phones to create Singeli!
