This song is about losing someone great and never realizing how much you loved them until they were gone. I think. The lyrics “when someone great is gone” makes it seem that way. No matter how much you fight and disagree, you miss them. Then after there gone you expect everything to be bad, and on the most perfect days you can be left feeling empty. So all I can say is this is a great song and enjoy your time with your loved ones.
