New song from crack cloud. Been checking every day since this was announced 1st April, was even thinking it might have been April fools but thank god it isn’t. The bass playing in it is beautiful and the general vibe is everything I could have hoped for. Also Mac deMarcos brief appearance in the music video is such an unexpected treat.

There’s this Berlin based record label called habibi funk that release compilations of the finest disco, funk and pop from 70s and 80s in the Middle East. Was listening to one of their playlists a while back and found this song which I always go back to when I want to feel happy and groovy. Highly recommend a look through their stuff, hours of fun to be had discovering gems like this one!!!

This band was a highlight of Wide Awake last year, incorporating Afro beat and psych rock to make the tastiest of songs. Truly scrumptious.

remembered I’m seeing powerplant at the end of May at dot to dot and had a bit of a binge listen today. I most definitely found true love with them, prancing across the downs on the way to lectures every morning in first year thinking I was the main character in my silly trench coat with a silly cigarette in hand. One of my most treasured vinyls and listened to albums. PLEASE give their album People in the Sun a listen!

I discovered aksak maboul in the introduction to David Stubbs Future Days (as in Can) Krautrock book (suuuuuch a good read defo recommend to get a better sense of the post WW2 German youth and the music scene built by the next generation to stray away from Americanised music standards. Anyway the avant prog scene and RER Megacorp record label are awesome check them out. Aksak Maboul have been producing wonderful retrofuturistic music since way before anyone like stereolab or the soundcarriers and they released this album a couple of years ago and have defo not disappointed.

Snakefinger was a sort of side member of the surreal pop group the residents in the 70s and 80s (if you haven’t listened to them they are defo worth the listen) and got his name through his slidy guitar fingerwork. This is a rather lovely cover of Kraftwerks The Model for your listening pleasure.

A band comprised of some of the best original post punks bands that ever existed (Glaxo babies, Pop group). Funky, jazzy, dubby post punk that I can’t get enough of. This song is always my go to 4am and still dancing tune, love it!!

always come back to this song for a bit of an emotional outpour. represents a great deal to me, as does the band. seems fitting after choosing jack medleys secure men. theres a moment in the instrumentals between verses that never fails to make me tear up

Was listening to ex military earlier and then fancied a bit of hella and then this absolute gem appeared in front of me. Jack Medley was an absolute icon from the Windmill (got a whole mural in the smoking shed) who had backing tracks and would proceed to rant on stage about all sorts. He unfortunately passed away a few years ago but this album was crowd funded and finally released after his death. Anyway lots of silly songs from this album (Sauly about Saul from fat whites is the all time classic, that’s where he got the inspiration for the band name). This song is math rock as it gets. Show the album some love
