Jill Scott returns back to the limelight with her first album release in a decade. Remembered through her classic rhythmic Neo Soul that is known for its infectious groove, and those smooth and powerful vocals. Scott remains within those perimeters on this release, if not more eclectic in today’s age as all that time has passed, and her life has grown and more stories have emerged to tell. Those sensual lyrics still flood through this album, but you can hear the proud woman she is shine through, with lyrics about self love and callbacks to the women who pioneered the culture. The album fuses together a lot of different sounds, from the classic Neo Soul, to boom bap with DJ Premier, to then a r&b and jazz fusion which gives it that fiery spark before we ease back into that psychedelic soul.
