i saw esperanza spalding last night!! she, the band, and the dancers were so amazing. it was the perfect first concert of the year. i’ve never had a concert make me think so much while it’s happening. she has what i think is a unique approach to performance that made the show feel more like a transfer of information and an experience than just paying to see her play her music live. i’ve also never seen such a dynamic vocal performance- it was one of those things where you’re like “is she really making all of those sounds herself all at once??” the answer is yes. i went with a friend who was already a big fan of esperanza’s and my mom who’d never listened to her music before and it was great seeing them both enjoy themselves 🥹
