Musical legend Kim Gordon creates a provocative, intriguing trap record, at the ripe age of 72. If you told me one of the founders of Sonic Youth would be making a trap infused album in 2026, I’d look at you very confused but also very captivated by the thought of it. The album yields these hazy samples and distorted trap like beats throughout which are compelling and really carry the songs a lot of the times, the intro track ‘Play Me’ had me sold instantly as I heard that murky jazz loop. Her vocals will definitely be a deciding factor for many listeners, it’s a sort of raspy more unconventional approach, at times it kinda reminded me of Robert Smith of the cure, but i think it’s so left field that it was endearing and made me more locked in what was happening. I think it did wilt off at the end of the album after such a intriguing first few songs, it became more bland trap beats and the lyrics became more just saying random things just to say it.
