🆃🆄🅽🅴-🆃🆁🅴🅺 🌍🧳 ᴡᴇꜱᴛᴇʀɴ ꜱᴀʜᴀʀᴀ 🇪🇭 If you’re like me and have always been curious as to what the deal is with Western Sahara (ie: what is it and why it’s disputed ) basically Spain controlled it ‘till 1975 even tho Morroco lay claim to it since ‘57. When Spain gave it up neighboring Mauritiania got in a fight with Morroco over it but ultimately lost. Nowadays about 80% of the land is administered by Morroco, while the other 20% is ran by an Islamic gov called the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (which is why its always marked as disputed territory on maps). So, even tho it’s very sparsely populated (it is the Sahara desert after all) it’s got a mix of Spanish, Sahrawi (native), Moroccan, and Arabic culture.
