Aggressive, abrasive, energetic, extreme, this Femtanyl record is a chaotic mess that you can’t help but enjoy. There’s little breathing room throughout its 32 minute runtime, you’re stuffed straight into a room engulfed in flames straight from the start and then leave the same way a changed person. The album largely consists of that digital hardcore sound most listeners would probably owe to bands like Machine Girl, with its breakbeat core, but also pays homage to the sound of older artists like Nine Inch Nails, showcasing it’s industrial/cyberpunk vibe. Themes of body horror and gender dysphoria bleed through throughout the album, which all come through the artists’ own trans journey, which I think is very important especially in today’s volatile political space. These concepts are what give the band their cult following and I’m glad there’s people in the music world in these spaces giving representation to a community.
